Swa Garden Restaurant (汕园) @ Macpherson Road

The literal translation of this place means ' teochew garden', where 'swa' is a chinese term refering to the region of Swatou ( in teochew) in China.

This is such an amazing old school place...I like the food there, authentic, unpretentious, and just the good old taste of  Teochew food.

Ambience is a bit 'hard-core' but nonetheless, the food is rather delectable to make up for the lack in ambience. Price-wise, always trust these old-school guys to whip up affordable delicious cuisine.

I looove old school restaurants...:)

The name

Fish Maw & crab meat soup - they do not scrimp on the ingredients, and the stock, the stock is delicious

Cold platter - I always love cold platter, love the ngoh hiang, the prawn balls, the jellyfish and century egg

Oyster Omelette - very yummy lah

Steamed Groupa - very nice and fresh

This dish is sooo exciting - its deep fried duck....its like my dream dish..

Braised duck with spinach - see the deep rich colour of the sauce....you know its delicious

One of my perennial favourites - fried kway tiao....yum yum yum

To satiate my nephew's crazy appetite, we order a lemon chicken....so nicely fried and very very crunchy

Yam paste dessert - I thought the pumpkin and gingko nuts were superflous...but the yam has a delicious flavour.

Valentino @ Turf Club Road

I lllurrve fine dining nights with my ex- shanghai, hkg bffs.....they happen all to be quite uncle-ish in their distinct ways...but nonetheless, dining and drinking with them is always so much fun.

This is a place frequented by apparently, some high members of our ruling elite....

Food was excellent though, the only peeve, is that it is in such a ulu place..and the only sign to go there is a cheesy sign blinking at the junction, which would have been easily mistaken as a karaoke bar.

Remember this name.......

Yummy tomato salad is simple olive oil & balsamico dressing...tomatoes are so fresh and beautifully sweet

Arugula salad

to die for octopus grilled - so tender and with the taste of char-grilled on the outside

my favourite - risotto balls with tomato paste as dressing

This is an amazing pasta dish - squid ink pasta with a seafood bisque

This is tuna, egg and cheese pizza - am not a pizza fan, but this is yum.

This is the main dish - wagyu steak.......nothing more to be said....it should be left , enjoyed in silence...

Kha @ Martin 38

This was for a friend's birthday...and we decide to go upmarket.....and voila, kha!

The food is sort of a delicate lanna thai cusine style with fusion bits here and there...
I really like the ambience and am fascinated by the way they served the food in new interesting ways.....
very nice place to try and hang out with especially those chi chi friends...they will love it.
I do find the vibe a slight tad pretentious....but nonetheless, quite enjoyable for a Friday night 'bitch about your work' dinner where loads of wine is involved.

Menu Cover in Thai...

Crispy Rice cakes with a kind of laksa sauce - yum

Thai Basil fried with chicken

Pomelo Salad

Spring Rolls

Papaya salad with deep fried pork skin

Fried Tofu

Three different curries - green curry, duck red curry and thai prawn curry

Steamed fish with Thai herbs

Morton's Steakhouse @ Mandarin Oriental

On the night of my sundown marathon, I actually ate this.....Amazingly, I did not get indigestion from over-consumption of red meat as I thought I am susceptible to......

The red meat, is ssoooo good, but the portions are crazy big....way too big for my stomach........and the prices are not cheap......

I wish they have cheaper wines though....

The yummy french onion bread - which happens to be the size of my two year old niece's head.

Pacific Salmon - very very very fresh...I wish that I have tried the oysters there

New York Striploin - thank god, they halved it to be shared between me and my sis.....delicious, well done, potentially the best red meat chunk I had

Mac & Cheese sides - they could have done with a better cheddar!

Brussel Sprouts with Ham - I thought the sprouts are a bit too hard...

Onion Rings - this will remind you that you are dining in an american restaurant....real onions in the rings and really crispy and delicious.Only if you still have room in your stomach after the red meat deluge.

LiangKee Teochew Restaurant(亮记) @ Whampoa West

This joint is at the ground floor of my apartment, and it is always full during weekends....what more can I say.
Great delicious teochew food, also very affordable...would be great to try it as part of the teochew cooking education.

The chinese name of this restaurant.

Cold Dish - this is the traditional fare of meat prawn rolls, stir fried shark fin with eggs, fried tofu, cold jellyfish, & prawn salad ...very yummy lor.....

Yam Rice - I dun know how something with an insipid name like that can actually turn out to be sooo tasty..

Steamed Groupa - the Teochew people have a certain way of steaming fish, and the quality of the steamed fish is a good gauge of the food in the restaurant. And this fish is fresh!

The all famous braised duck and braised tofu

Stir Fried Bittergourd - this is not bad, but I think I can stir fried it pretty well too....I enjoyed the crunchiness of the bittergourd, and it is not too bitter as well.

Teochew Style Fried Rice Noodle - if you are in the know about Teochew Cuisine, this dish is one of those old school dishes that only old school restaurants do really well... Its incredibly yummy with the wok hei and amazing combi of vegetables and kway tiao....yum!

Iggy's @ Hilton Hotel

I really feel blessed for having a full ( literally) stomach for most of my meals....and with such elegant taste, and great environment and great atmosphere...and not to mention to enjoy these kind of exciting new food.

Its a very exciting cusine, with every taste being truly elegant and delicate...portions are minutiae, and very expensive, but the ambience is discreet and pleasant. Though for the prices we are paying, I suppose the ID should be much more 'oooopppphhhmmm'.

Otherwise, its a very good experience, it is mind-blowing....may not be, but certainly a great place if you are out to impress business associates, or strike some deals.

The wines there are great and not overtly expensive....

We had the degustation menu.....I rather the entrance to the resto be a little more interesting... but here goes the 6 course dinner menu

Expandable wet hankie, which I thought was a marshmallow..:P

Amuse Bouche - Tomato beer with fried river fish....nice

This is a somen salad with basil, iced stocked , chives and somen...interesting combination

Chlorophyll - this is a raw vegetable salad with edible 'soil', and nuts and a pea mousse.

River shrimps with capellini and roe. House special

Fried fish with Seared scallop and pesto sauce

Wagyu beef - cooked to perfection and yumminess

Dessert - whatever that is, I like ! Framboise sorbet

Ok, this are actually passion fruit bonbons and wasabi macarons on a bed of 'dark chocolate soil' sounds very Heston......and comes with chilli chocolate.
