Lolla @ Ann Siang Road

So it was my birthday a week ago, and decided to meet up with my friends mid-week for a drink and some bar snacks...... We were intending to head to Le Carillon, but Lolla captured my eye with their super musculine and rathe whimsical decor....and there we go again.

The food is great even though pricy. But really still like the open kitchen bar where you just talk to your friends, drink wine and snack!

Menu is as cute as the food. They were doing a early 20th century french theme.

Duck Rilletes - very yummy and nice duck flavours

Baguette with Enchire Butter ( the waitress says it is the most addictive butter you could possibly have)....well, it is very smooth, lightly salted and I was munching on it the entire evening....what do u expect?

Manchego Cheese - right, this is a good, yummy cheese. Loved it.

Potatoes in duck fat - how can this combination ever go wrong?? :)

Bread with tomato paste - not bad..tomato paste was very rich and very hearty

After trying the above dishes....was impressed by the quality, and decided to go for another dish that would seemed more like a full meal-bamboo clams with chorizo and tomatoes...it is delicious....who can guess seafood goes sooo well with chorizos.....

JuChunYuan @ Far East Square (聚春园)

Always walked past this restaurant with a rather classy interior, and always wanted to try it. Its a chinese restaurant, and definately needs a big crowd to be there.

Food is Fuzhou chinese food and they are supposedly famous for their "buddha jumps over the wall". Didn't quite like these overtly luxurious dishes so we ordered a few a la carte specialities.. To our surprise, food is very tasty  and rather unusual...and completely unpricy. Its a definate must try...not to mention that the restaurant is done up rather elegantly.

Was especially captivated by the array of teapots, and delicate porcelain ware.

Chicken Soup - This has got to be the best double-broiled chicken soup I ever had.
The chef  stir fried the chicken before setting it in a pot for the double-broiled effect. Very yummy.

Cod Fish & Tofu Claypot - loved the homemade tofu, though the fish and sauce were good but not amazing or mind-blowing. Overall still a good dish.

Tea-mushrooms fried in egg yolk - very very yummy dish and really loved this combination

Hong Zao Pork Rib - the red sauce is a special fuzhou sauce, and tasted very good...but I did not quite fancy the way the pork rib was prepared.

Special Fuhou braised noodles - very very yummy, with the aroma of good rice vinegar

Heng Hua Beehoon - this looks simple and almost unappetizing....but this has got to be one of the best fried beehoon in my entire life. There is a special sauce to give it somme 'ooomph"

Deep fried pork belly slice - tasted almost like you are eating pork chips.....interesting flavours...though I will wanna try their house special - braised pork belly...the next time

Their desserts are good too - Snow Mountain lotus

Mango with Pomela ( Yang Zhi Gan Lu) - this version is lighter with more citrus notes.

Yam Paste - loved this dish , the yam was really smooth and very aromatic, and loved the mini portions compared to the TeoChew Version.

It is  crab season in this resto....but the crabs are pretty pricy...I say: go to shanghai to have Da Zha Xie.
