京香饺- Shanghaiese eatery at Caine Road

This place is the real deal...a bit dodgy, but overall clean but delicious chinese dumplings....prices are cheap too. Ambience- zero..so don't bring your date there...
I like the Zha Jiang Mian very much, and their main dishes turn out to be very well done. Nothing is too exotic or complicated, its simple plain good food, shanghaiese style. I would definately go back there to eat again..

Newspaper article on the eatery

Zha Jiang Mian! My favourite - I love the meat sauce and the huge servings of cucumber

Stir-fried Shanghaiese noodles

pork & chives dumplings - the soup ain't great..but the dumpling has got to be the best I ever tasted.

This deceptively simple looking cucumber with garlic is really good...I don't know why

sweet and sour fish - very nice, but too small a plate!

La Brasserie (Conrad Hotel @ Pacific Place)

The champagne brunch here is definately recommended....Fresh oysters, great foie gras, great seafood selection, delicious dessert, the other stuff was not too bad as wellmany selections of food........they do pretty well pasta .....expensive, yes...worth going there to eat for 3 to 4 hours ....definately...... Their best bit is probably the roasting and oysters stations... and they even have free main courses......

I think it is better than the JW marriot buffet..

oysters and sashimi.... ( lovely lovely lovely)

The King crab is just so good...and I had roasted quail..nice..

Pan fried foie gras, poached fish ( so-so) and preseved fish ( those are pretty good), and italian zuchini in olive oil

asparagus with parma ham (ok only), chinese steamed fish ( great) , soya sauce chicken ( good) and Char siew ( normal)

More pan-fried foie gras  and foie gras in pancakes with butter sauce

Main Course - Rack of Lamb ( very nicely done)

Main Course - Miso marinated cod with teriyaki sauce ( excellent)

grilled king prawns

Dessert platter... these are really good too..

Dessert again!

The ubitiquous chocolate fondue.......ok it is pretty good...chocolate is not too sickly sweet...

Central Dai Pai Dong ( next to 101 Queen's street Central)

I lived in Central, and pass by the Dai Pai Dong a million times, I don't know why I never ventured to try there, till this friday... They do real open fire on the open street, that itself is quite a spectacle...The last store on the street is supposed to be the 'good' one, there are plenty of local 'uncles' drinking beer there...food is surprisingly good, given that it is just food cooked with big fire...It is as Hong Kong as you can get...if you want to try real Cantonese food, it is not delicate, but rather interesting, and quite good food ( but not too spectacular either)

the typical Hong Kong Dai Pai Dong

the menu

clams in black bean sauce - i have to admit the black bean sauce is one of the tastiest I have ever eaten...the clams are pretty fresh..

salt and pepper fried groupa - i thought the sauce was great, but the groupa ain't that fresh

This look really bad, but in fact it is good, the garlic and vegetables stir fried is quite good with big wok fire

Stir-fried eggs with tomatoes - this is good, just they use tasteless chinese tomatoes...it will be super duper good if they used better tomatoes

sweet and sour pork...this is good, this is good....

Jade Garden @Causeway Bay

This is one of the more traditional dim sum places that does the basic dim sum such as har gau, siew mai and such really well, prices are not too expensive, but you do get the evasive waiters and waitresses which tends to be a bit frustrating....but it is still better than Lin Heung, the big old brother of dim sum restaurants. Basic traditional dim sum is delicious, but no surprises here ( i think the Square  @ exchange square is better for innovative dim sum), these guys follow strict Cantonese tastes...

the interior is also very 'retro'- i mean 1980s retro...

Beancurd roll with soup - instead of deep frying it, they put in chicken soup....totally nice

deep fried taro dumplings - very good, done in traditional cantonese way

Har Gau - the skin is very thin, and the prawn juicy, but the skin is a tad dry

pea shoot and prawn dumpling - this is the sticky skin type of chinese dumpling, I actually quite like the texture, and the pea shoots are really fresh.

spare ribs - this is very delicious, maybe one of the best spare ribs in Hong Kong

Shrimp Cheung Fan - texture of rice rolls is very nice......in a traditional well made Cantonese dim sum kinda way

instead of carrot cake, this is the taro cake, and just as good

The ZhenZhu chicken - they do it so well in Hong Kong..i need not say more..

The porridge is heartily good too....:)

Singapore food - Toa Payoh Kueh Chap

Ok, I am a hawker food junkie...I love it, it is soo unhealthy , but taste soo good. I have a personal fetish for pigs' innards.I think they just taste great, especially in Kueh Chap style...I know a few good Kueh Chap stalls around, but this time round I am only able to catch the Toa Payoh one ( it is in a coffee shop right next to the hawker center, and it spills out to the open air). I will blog the other ones once I have taken more photos...

the signage actually says 源记馃汁

Kueh Chap..its good stuff, and I like the soup , and the kueh chap ain't too thick..

This plate has the Duodenum (粉肠)and the large intestines (大肠)

This plate has pig's skin, front part of big intestines (大肠头), braised egg, Tau Pok and Fish cake...so nice!!

Singapore food Special - V tea room

This place is just off Seah Street on the second floor and very discreet, and the very quirky owner opens during office hours. It is a great place for tea, and especially for women..it is gentle, elegant and you would feel definately refreshed and enlivened after having tea there...

the graceful and gentle interior

A light citron water refreshments served in gorgeous turkish tea cups

French Rose tea with biscotte

English Breakfast tea with puff pastry

Long Jing Tea with sour plums

Orange Cake - I suspect they use the japanese Mikan orange on top..this is delicious, homely delicious, and totally unpretentious....

Singapore food special- Dry Noodle galore

I am a super big fan of noodles, pastas and any form of carbs that looks long and stringy...So this time I went back to Singapore and had lots of dry noodles...and these ones are from my favourite hawker stalls

People Parks Complex - 云记鱼生捞面 ( Yusheng with dry noodles) , everything is great about this noodles, sashimi plus dried noodles, how good can it get? The sauce is delicious, and the noodles is springy.....absolute heaven

Lorong Ah Soo Hawker Center - 旺角云吞面 ( Wantan noodles) , this is soo good, that I order extra noodles everytime I eat there, the chilli sauce is sooo good....noodles is sooo springy..I even wish I was the daughter of the hawker couple, so I can get to eat it every day!

Soya Sauce Chicken noodle next to Hong Lim Food Complex - I love this place, the chicken is soo nice, the soya sauce noodle is sooo good, even the soup for the dumplings is dark and taste of lovely dark soya sauce taste!!

A new noodle stall have cement their position in my heart - Nam Seng noodle stall at Far East Square. Run by the old granny and cooked by her decendants....her noodles are so fragrant and so chewy.......... I will continuously update this column as I go in search of good wanton noodles stall......my personal mission :)
