Makoto@J senses ,Ship Street, Wanchai

Went to this yakitori place via a recommendation of a friend , and found it half empty...was it that bad? i wondered to myself.....but in end , the food was pretty honest and authentic, not the awe-inspiring Japanese food you would find in Japan, but really the quality is decent, and they do not have bubblegum Japanese food. The portions are a little small though...3 of us end up sharing a set dinner ( about 8 courses) and a few extra dishes.....tried to order some exotic sakes...but they are out of stock for a good 60% of the sake...talk about restaurant management...:(
.it is alright for a decent semi-formal meal...but I still way prefer Rakuen or Nanbantei anytime for Yakitori.

The menu

Beautiful Sake Bottle

The Sashimi platter is not bad, at least the sashimi is very fresh..

The appetizer - tomato salad, grilled blow fish, Age Tofu and stewed ABalone

Stewed beef cubes

Yakitori set - chicken wing, beef tongue, minced chicken meat, mushrooms, peppers and chicken meat

Fried rice - the taste is a little too chinese

Grilled mackerel - this is good!

Cheese-baked seafood - the seafood is really fresh. interesting dish

Vegetable Tempura - not bad...but portion is really small..and I still prefer tempura from Agehan...

Hangzhou Hyatt's 28 Hubin Road

This is my last work trip to Hangzhou...so to commemorate my last work trip there, we went to 28 Hubin Road in Hyatt Regency Hotel. The food is marvellous, it showcases the best of Hangzhou cusine and added a fusion twist to it. The result is a wonderful food experience combining all of the Zhejiang flavours in the entire meal.

10 year age yellow wine - needs to breathe for about 10 minutes before the aroma can be fully appreciated. It is a must in Zhejiang Cusine

Tarragon with beancurd skin - so delicate and subtle

Potato sheet rolls with Spinach and sesame seed dressing . very delicious

"song sao" fish broth - with fish, mushrooms, etc think broth, so full of flavour.

Dongpo meat - with stewed bamboo shoots under the pyramid. You can only find this dish in Zhejiang region, and they do it so well here!

Chestnut pancakes -to go with the DongPo meat

Stewed Cod with garlic- surprising the thick taste of the sauce do not cover the freshness of the cod at all...the whole dish is just amazing

Zhenjiang Pork ribs - simply a great musculine dish with a lot of taste

SuperStar Restaurant @ TST

SuperStar is a chain Cantonese restaurant specialising in live seafood, hairy crabs and the works. The one I have tried this time for dim sum is along Nathan Road, just right across the street from Chung King Mansion. Well, foodwise, the dim sum selection is not too novel, comprising of mainly traditional dim sum. For me, it falls within the average range ( well dim sum in HK is generally of a high quality), but they don't do traditional dim sum in the style of Lin Heung or Maxims at Quarry Bay, and they are not the new types of dim sum as you can find in the Square.. I think it is alright, but not exceptional. The Lau Sa Bao is pretty good though..

Roasted Duck with Rice noodles - Roast duck (average), soup (average) rice noodles ( nice and chewy)..but I personally always like dishes like that...so I still kinda like it.

Crab Meat Xiao Long Bao - there is only one serving, and the friend who ate it thinks that the skin is too thick

Steamed Rice rolls- this one have an interesting filling - mushrooms, zuchini and scallops. This is not bad too.

Stewed Tripe - this is surprisingly very good!

Deep fried beancurd sheet rolls, with pork and shrimps filling. It is alright. The very delicious Lau Sa Bao, I took really bad pictures of it, so it is not posted onto the blog.

Peanut Roll- average

Chang Won Korean Restaurant

Trying out new restaurants in TST, and yes, there are many many Korean restaurants around that area. This one isn't particularly good, and the interior looks a bit sad and musty. The only highlight is their Korean pancake, which is crispy and delicious...due to the lack of Korean customers there...I concluded that this is not really the real deal.

the name of the restaurant

Again - the appetizers 12 of them in total!

Bibimbup - looks great, but actually not so tasty

grilled mackerel -but not too good either

This is really good - only the seafood pancake is delicious

soup- I find the style a bit too chinese

Harlan's at IFC, Central

Harlan's in IFC does lunch buffets on Sundays. What do they have - delicious really fresh oysters ( the new hotness in my life), great selection of fresh sashimi, and frankly, I don't remember the rest...they are a selection of salads and pasta was a bit sad. But for 300 ++, I think its worth the oyster though...and vegetables are really fresh as well, great view to the harbour, and perfect if you are entertain the new age yuppies type of friends, with a cool civilised relaxing ambience, but not for the value-for-money eaters.

Any decent restaurant should bake their own bread
The ham is really fresh too and my new hotness - oysters a lot of Fin de Clair ones

Pate on toast , assortment of smoked fish

Main course comes with the lunch buffet- I had Australian Snapper..it is average

The roast beef filet is very good...

Pasta - so so
