MOS Brothers @ Elgin Street

MOS Brothers - aka Mostaccioli Brothers

MOS Brothers - an Italian joint along Elgin Street was raved upon by one of my best friends in HKG, he goes on and on about how they are nice to him, and how wine is cheap and good there....so I gotta try that when I was visiting there.

All who knows me, knows that I take pictures of the menu..., kinda cute motifs....the cook & the mafia? I am guessing the chefs are from Sicily?

Yes, they make their own beautiful bread too!

The bread is pretty good with different kind of pestos to dip in...

Lunch set minestrone soup - so so.....

I had this special pasta, which is anchovies pasta. The pasta is good...but the taste of anchovies is a tad too slight. But overall, it do taste very good.......all washed down with a nice glass of white! :) Now thats life!

Only lunch comments, coz I didn't have time to stay till dinner. The pasta was well done, al dente, and a bit modern italian pasta. Totally different approach from Cenacolo which goes the hearty italian Mama route.

If I would go back again, yes, if it is what my friend said about the cheap and good wine!

Sportful Garden @ Shueng Wan Golden Center

Alright, another good Dim Sum place ( remember its not fabulous), but they do serve some pretty interesting stuff...and loads of abalone...so its good as part of the HK dim sum experience.

Mock Goose - actually very nice

Char Siew Steam rice roll - you got it, I really dig this dish, but its pretty alright here but again not fabulous

some exotic dumpling with scallop and vegetables

Xiao Long Bao - so so

Abalone Siew Mai - did I mention Abalone? :)

Minced Beef Ball with chestnut

Char Siew Bao

North Garden @ Shueng Wan Man Yee Building

Another Dim Sum place....I am getting good at discerning good dim sum ( which you can find all over HK) to fabulous dim sum ( rare gems)..so this place is a good dim sum place...well, that says it all right? But for visitors...if you can't find a place anywhere else...its quite a decent place.

Roasted pork - really crispy skin

Char Siew Steamed rice roll -ok lah

Turnip cake with fried garlic on top

Char Siew pastry

Chicken feet braised ( I like this very much), it is not mushy

Asian Twist @ IFC Central

On knowing that there is a new Singaporean/malaysian restaurant in Central, I jumped at the chance to go there and try the food! well, the price ain't cheap, and the food ain't all great , amazing and fantastic. It does have the real spicy taste and rich flavours of my hometown. The Fried Bee hoon almost had me in tears...other than the fact that it is 10 times the price I would pay back home.....Not a bad place...but I rather they open in some small shop in SOHO, and bring out the real kopitiam flavour, and also, it is so hard to find within the myriad of shops in IFC...

Beef Rendang with Briyani - ok

Fried Bee Hoon - this is what I want for breakfast everyday!!

Laksa - it is a bit watered down...not the Katong Laksa version either....can't put my finger to it

Pork Rib noodle soup - alright, this is not too bad

Babylon @ Gough Street

We went to Babylon for a friend's birthday dinner....hmmm...the food is good...though not authentically italian or french...they serve franco-italiano dishes...well, it comes modified with a dash of the drama of Hong Kong cusinese, but if you know me, I am all ok with food like that....after all cusine is always subjected to different evolution and amalgation of different cultures..right?

Salad Caprese

Pan Fried Foie Gras - sauce is lovely...but the foie gras feels a tiny tad old.....

scallop linguine...yum...

Magushi @ Peel Street

It seems quite popular on a Friday night....but it can't really be compared with Nanbantei....so its an option to go if Nanbantei says that they are full till 11pm....The food ain't bad and the managers seem friendly....

Agedashi Tofu - this is very well done

grilled eggplant with miso - this is a great dish which brings out the natural sweetness of eggplants

grilled veges- these are pretty normal

soba - hmmmm very average..dun order this

grilled garlic - nice, chicken minced stick - ok, and beef -ok

chicken wing and chicken bone

dried blowfish - always like this dish

funk deep fried roll, but the taste aint fantastic

Grilled rice balls is one thing I look for in a good yakitori joint..this place does ok grilled rice balls...alright head down to Nanbantei...and you will know the difference

Hanagushi @ LKF

This place is a secret place when I have no place to recommend to eat. Not particularly crowded, not extremely expensive, food is not bad, pretty ok range of sake, close to LKF...what else can you ask for. The Japanese food is not really the authentic type...it is probably more closer to a north american Japanese restaurant, but it is a pretty good place for a big group of people..to make merry..and yes behave like teenagers...:)

The restaurant interior

Their sake decanter is cute

miso with cucumbers

Tako Wasabi

Sashimi platter

Yakitori - grilled minced chicken balls

Dobin-mushi : though it just taste like chicken stock...

This is a pretty famous establishment...they have my favourite shochu ( la tomato) and the sushi is great....Japanese food there is authentic North American Jap food ( note the rainbow rolls and things like that)!!...though not completely mind-blowing....but if you are looking for good-quality Japanese food, it is a pretty safe choice to go to...
