SenShu Raku @ The GoldMark, HK

My first dinner in HKG with friends....and they organised at SenshuRaku.....this building houses at least 4 or 5 different japanese restaurants eg. the Mon, etc etc....

The waitress ( surprisingly) has a great though dark sense of humour, and decor was the usual intimate style.

Though food was alright, ( average ) and not great...I nonetheless enjoy the whole experience.

This is what it looks like......

Sushi Moriwase - its average, not bad, but not amazing either

Thats a salmon with eel rool

Chicken Cartilage skewer - I wished that it was a bit more charred though, so the sides can be crispy

Salt- grilled cod . I always love cod...but if the grilled cod is grilled till mushy, it is a waste of the fish. This is firm in most parts, but mushy in some....so still average grilling skills to me.

Agedashi Tofu - can't really go wrong with this, unless you use very inferior ingredients

Grilled beef steak with scallions, this is actually very delicious.

Tsukune - yes, it looks different from other Tsukune skewer...I felt that the Tsukune did not bring out the taste of the chicken, but instead taste mainly of the sauce.

Alright, go there if the Mon is full....you might be able to get seats there.

Ryo-Tei@Westlands Road

It was my first day in HK, missing it throughly after 7 months of not living there. I remember that there was a ramen place taking over the congee shop near to my old office...So I went to check it out....

Pleasant surprise. The quality of ramen beats quite a bit in SG which I have tasted........good one!

The Menu again!

I asked for some kimchi to up my vegetable quantum...

Shoyu Ramen! The soup base is yum, the noodles is yum, and best of all, they got the eggs right! :)

Magushi @ Peel Street

It seems quite popular on a Friday night....but it can't really be compared with Nanbantei....so its an option to go if Nanbantei says that they are full till 11pm....The food ain't bad and the managers seem friendly....

Agedashi Tofu - this is very well done

grilled eggplant with miso - this is a great dish which brings out the natural sweetness of eggplants

grilled veges- these are pretty normal

soba - hmmmm very average..dun order this

grilled garlic - nice, chicken minced stick - ok, and beef -ok

chicken wing and chicken bone

dried blowfish - always like this dish

funk deep fried roll, but the taste aint fantastic

Grilled rice balls is one thing I look for in a good yakitori joint..this place does ok grilled rice balls...alright head down to Nanbantei...and you will know the difference

Hanagushi @ LKF

This place is a secret place when I have no place to recommend to eat. Not particularly crowded, not extremely expensive, food is not bad, pretty ok range of sake, close to LKF...what else can you ask for. The Japanese food is not really the authentic type...it is probably more closer to a north american Japanese restaurant, but it is a pretty good place for a big group of people..to make merry..and yes behave like teenagers...:)

Their sake decanter is cute

miso with cucumbers

Tako Wasabi

Yakitori - grilled minced chicken balls

Dobin-mushi : though it just taste like chicken stock...

Hakata Dojo Hotpot at TST Fern Center

What better activity than to eat hotpot in winter.....these days Hong Kong is too cold...and Hotpot just sounds good. This one is made of ...beef offal...yes did I say that I was a big fan of offal..? The soup base taste like a thick miso ramen soup base...very flavourful..but a tad salty though. The other dishes are very good and interesting too. I guess this being Kyushu cusine is something a little bit special. Its a place that I would definately go again!

This is the exact name of the restaurant, no english translation

Gyoza hot plate - gyozas here are very good...

Yakitori - they have a good range of Yakitori here...and done quite well...

Sushi Kuu @ Wellington Street

This is a pretty famous establishment...they have my favourite shochu ( la tomato) and the sushi is great....Japanese food there is authentic North American Jap food ( note the rainbow rolls and things like that)!!...though not completely mind-blowing....but if you are looking for good-quality Japanese food, it is a pretty safe choice to go to...
