Cafe Salivation @ Race Course Road

Now, this is a western vegetarian food place which is rather rare in SG. Its usually indian or chinese. So I found this to be a rather interesting place.

Food wise, they have rather exciting menus, which to non vegetarians may be common place, but actually is very exciting for vegetarians.

I like that the food is simple and sincere. They don't try to be what they are not. Another comfort food category, though will not impress your millionaire gf or bf but will  make do for a simple feel good meal.

A pinkish perky decor, quite unlike the usual little indian joints around...

Roasemary fries - nice, yummy comfort food

Vegetable croquettes - love the fact they added a tiny bit of spice for taste, the yogurt mint sauce is a great combi for this.

Pesto Fettucino - creamy pesto sauce! Nice, and well done al dente pasta. Not sublime, but really well done by veg standards. If I need to bring my veg friends out, this will be the place.

The Whole Earth @ Peck Seah Street

Lunch at the Whole Earth - its a pretty good place, though it is pretty pricy for vegs & tofu.....but my philosophy is that the simplest ingredients when finely crafted can turn into an utmost delicacy...and that skill is worth paying for....

Everybody can make foie gras taste good....but not a lot of people can make beancurd skin taste just as good....

Peranakan -Thai- Vege .....actually sounds like a strange combi

Amuse-bouche : beancurd skin fritters with seaweed. Very very imaginative & yummy too..it acts like papadum in an Indian restaurant

Pickles - delicate & yummy

Fish Head curry - vegetarian style.....so strange but loved the beancurd skin....

Again another fish beehoon that taste soooo good...that I think its better than the real deal

Also very very lurve brown rice

Ngoh Hiang - very very yummy....loved the place but prepared to pay.

Forest Dew Restaurant @ Boon Keng Blk 22

I lived in the wonderful little neighbourhood of Boon Keng, where there are loads of old people, and loads of good local and cheap food...as in all mature HDB estates.

This place really did not look exciting at all, until we tried the food there.
Vegetarian food does have their own allure. Cooked pretty healthily, there are lovely dishes that would change one's perception of chinese vegetarian food from oily, unhealthy deep fried stuff to actually one which would make you think: I could be a vegetarian too!

The part about the restaurant's exterior not being very exciting....its true...the menu is not the prettiest

SanBei Tofu :its just tofu, with basil leaves cooked in a nice delicious dark sauce......

Olive Fried Rice :Well, the pork floss is mock pork floss, the olive fried rice is delicious ..

Fish soup beehoon - who would have thought of this as a vegetarian dish? But it works pretty darn well

Cereal Prawn - The 'prawns' are actually abalone mushrooms, and really yummy.
